To the uninitiated, the auction house can seem like a circus show more than a sale at times. And rightly so – auctioneers like to keep things entertaining! Even if you can’t understand all of the jargon, you’ll have a great time (and you might even take home something you love).

Auction Jargon, Decoded: Basic Auction Terminology

The auction world is one in which you really can’t get by without knowing the language. Whether you’re totally new to auctions or want to brush up on your existing knowledge, here’s a roundup of some of the words and phrases you’re most likely to run into at your first auction.

At a Dakil auction, we have to think about how to make our events buzz with enthusiasm – how to get bidders excited enough to jump in the bidding and drive up prices. Sometimes it feels like trying to capture lightning in a bottle – but we have some tried and true techniques that always manage to get our clients going.

Like any worthy pursuit, the hunt for a reliable used vehicle can be – to put it gently – a major pain. Driving to a used car dealership, trying to shake off pushy sales people, and finding plenty of vehicles that need a key component replaced or major repairs…it can get exhausting. And when you’ve been doing it every weekend, it can become downright grueling. But there’s a light at the end of the car-shaped tunnel, and you might not have considered it before: local auto auctions.
